If you start learning the calls of birds and frogs heard in the spring, your love for nature will skyrocket.\u00a0 I used a parabolic dish to record the sounds heard below. To record a sound, I point the dish directly at the bird\/frog that is singing, it amplifies the sound and is received by my recorder. I took all of the photos in this post over the past few years.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Woodland<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"EhouseWren\" src=\"http:\/\/oldnaturalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/EhouseWren1-300x212.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"212\" \/>House Wren<\/strong>&#8211; House wrens started calling in late May. Last year one pair took over a chickadee cavity nest and filled the nest with sticks. It is one of my favorite songs to hear and look forward to the grosbeak&#8217;s return each year. Lastly, they make a meowing-like call that sounds\u00a0 like a cat in the bushes.<\/p>\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Wetland<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"redwing3\" src=\"http:\/\/oldnaturalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/redwing3-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><strong>Red-wing blackbird<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; The call of red-wing blackbird is often called &#8220;The voice of the marsh&#8221;. The sound can be deafening when they are calling. However, they are very difficult to find if you are searching for them.
