Spending a few days up on the Gunflint trail, North of Grand Marais, MN changed my emotional outlook. We did not have all of the comforts of suburban life. We became more a part of nature rather than observers from afar.<\/p>\n

\n<\/em>A trance-like state<\/em><\/p>\n

\nThe life outside of me
\nIs also inside of me.<\/em><\/p>\n

The “drumming” of the pileated woodpeckers sounded like the playing of a djembe in the woods.<\/p><\/div>\n

Laid claim to the camp.<\/p><\/div>\n

In the presence of wildness<\/strong>
\nEarly morning ski
\nFresh Pine Marten tracks
\nA wisp of its presence in the air
\nI drink it in
\nTime slows down.
\nNearby, the marten’s den
\nA sacred space
\nHidden
\nBut invaded by a human
\nWho must get a photo
\nTo share on Facebook
\nThe beauty and wonder is lost.<\/p>\n
