What breath-taking photographs! Thank you for posting them.
I think I sent my comment to the wrong person. It was supposed to go to Linnea. Anyway, a comment on the frozen river photos. I took my eight graders out to the La Crosse River Marsh (La Crosse, WI) with cameras (in January) and we took lots of photos of snow and ice and marsh grasses, etc. and put together a photo essay called “Surfaces.” The pictures were like yours. Beautiful.
Richard, I sent your message about the turkeys to Linnea. Your students will remember that day on the river, and thankful to have a teacher who is willing to show them new life experiences.
If you have not seen it already, there was a program on Wisconsin Public Television called”My Life As A Turkey.” It’s about a guy who was given some turkey eggs. He incubated them and when they hatchesd, the turkeys imprinted on him. It’s quite a story. If you haven’t seen it, please do, you’ll love it. Just google it and you’ll find it.
Those photos are so artistic! The photos of the inner space of the frozen river almost look like outer space.

Beautiful images – I love the last picture
I was out on the ice for the first time this a.m. with my dog too. A small pond in Eden Prairie, looked like about 3″ of ice but it was occasionally cracking as we wandered about. Since there’s no snowfall yet I hear that on some lakes you can see the fish pretty well underneath (there aren’t any fish in the one I was on).
